A huge part of any marketing plan is content creation. Content is the backbone to your website, social media marketing, and traditional marketing. If content is the backbone for your marketing, wouldn’t you want to define that backbone yourself?

Let’s look at a dentist website for example. A dental website needs to speak to their practice, their philosophy, and their dental services. Nobody knows the dental services that they provide as well as the dentist and their team; so why have other people write about your practice?

Should I Hire Somebody to Write for Me?

Yes, but you should direct the content.

Don’t get us wrong; there is a huge need for content marketing firms and people who help with content and SEO direction (cough cough). However, many businesses are doing themselves a huge disservice by leaving their voice out of their content. Content guidance and voice should be passed down from those that represent the business; this is key to an authentic blog.

So what if you don’t know where to start?

Writing your content can seem daunting…until you start writing. If you own your own business, you are talking about your business all of the time. Take those conversations and write them down. If you have a lot of question that you answer for clients, family, or friends, those are probably issues that would make a great blog post.

If you offer root canals, to continue with the dental example, you should write about what to expect before, during, and after your visit. Talk about pain and symptoms that lead a dentist to recommend a root canal or what kind of recovery and sensitivity that you can expect after a root canal. More importantly, write about common misunderstandings surrounding root canals and establish yourself as an authoritative figure in dentistry.

How to Find Ideas for Articles.

Outside of using your everyday conversations for potential blog post ideas, there are plenty of services setup to help you explore possible blog topics. Here are two of the best places to start gathering ideas for your next blog post:

  • BuzzSumo helps you analyze your content and keywords to see what is trending, impactful, and what your competitors are talking about. Try Out BuzzSumo
  • Google Trends takes a look at all the content around the web to see what is trending, hence the name. You can use these trending topics to talk about how they relate to your business, get involved in popular topics, and show relevancy. Check Out Google Trends
